School governors work as a team and are responsible for making sure that the school provides a good quality education for every child. They are not expected to be involved in the day to day running of the school, but set strategic plans for the future and act as critical friends.
The duties of a governor include:
- working as a member of the Governing Body for the best interests of the school
- attending regular and special meetings of the Governing Body, and any committees when appointed
- becoming familiar with general educational issues and developments
- taking an interest in school activities
- promoting the school in the local community
